Some Family Dome Tents are Huge but necessary

I grew up in a large family.  I am the oldest of 7 kids (3 boys and 4 girls).  When our family went camping, we needed shelter for 9 people plus all of our camping gear.  We’d normally go camping in my grandpa’s old green canvas tent.  It was so heavy we could hardly lift it,  Family tents are much different these days.  They are bigger, lighter and just as waterproof.  They have more windows, screens and compartments for storing things.

Some of the more popular Dome tents have walls that are curved to help the rain run off and the wind blow over.  Other family dome tents are more rectangular with straight walls to allow more room for cots along the side walls.  If you are in a large family and don’t use cots, dome tents are great.  You can either sleep in a sleeping bag on the floor of the tent or on an air mattress blown up with a built in electric pump or manual pump.  If you want to sleep in cots, you should consider a rectangular tent with straight walls like the one pictured.  Many cots can be positioned around the outside walls to accommodate a large family and then some cots or sleeping bags can be put in the middle.  Some of these family tents have multiple rooms so you can put a table inside with some camping chairs.  Enjoy your next camping trip and remember, “The Joy is in the Journey”.
