kettle.  But when camping, you can use a dutch oven and cook directly over a fire pit our on camping grills.  I like trying different kinds of cookware when I go camping and the dutch oven is the perfect cookware for making Campfire Cabbage.  A list of ingredients are provided below along with directions on how to cook the cabbage.  Give it a shot on your next outing and I think you’ll be surprised at how easy it is to make and how good it tastes.  Food always tastes better when camping.

Ingredients

  • 2-3 slices bacon
  • 1 large onion
  • 1 head of cabbage
  • salt pepper
  • garlic powder

Directions

In a large dutch oven or frying pan, cook chopped up bacon until almost burnt. Add chopped onion and cabbage and stir until cabbage is wilted. Add enough water to cover. Bring to a boil. Cook until most of the water is gone and cabbage is desired tenderness. If need be, more water can be added. Add seasoning to taste.
