Use Popcorn Popper Cookware To Make Popcorn Salad

I’m what you would consider a popcorn lover.  I literally eat a bag of popcorn every day.  I normally sprinkle some cheddar cheese, ranch or parmesean seasoning over the popped kernals and eat while watching TV in the evening.  I wash it all down with a tall glass of lemon flavored iced team.  Yesterday I participated in my sister Carloyn’s annual golf and volleyball party which was a lot of

fun. Carolyn and her husband Randy put on a wonderful event and the food at lunch time is always special because all of Carolyn’s friends and relatives bring creative recipes.  For example, Popcorn Salad was a hit and was gone before anybody could get a second helping.

It was my first time eating a popcorn salad and I’m hooked.  While the recipe below calls for using Old Dutch popcorn, I think popcorn salad would be a great addition to any meal you eat at outdoor camp outs and you can pop your own popcorn by using some outdoor cookware like Rome’s Pioneer Popcorn Popper. You can pop some kernels the old fashioned way, over the open flame of a campfire. The roomy cooking cavity of this popcorn popper easily pops 2 quarts of popcorn at a time and is also suitable for roasting chestnuts.  I’m told the Old Dutch Popcorn is good and crispy which helps reduce the soggy texture you might otherwise get with popcorn when all the ingredients below are mixed.  So make sure that when you use this popcorn popper cookware, the popcorn is very crispy when finished.  Try the recipe below and remember, “The joy is in the journey.

Prep Time: 10 min | Servings: 12

Ingredients:

  • 1 Bag of Old Dutch White Gourmet Popcorn or pop you own in a popcorn popper
  • 2 Bunches of Green Onions, chopped
  • 2 Cups of Celery, chopped
  • 2 Cans of Sliced Water Chestnuts, chopped
  • 2 lbs. of Bacon, crumbled
  • 2 Cups of Shredded Cheddar Cheese

Preparation:

  • 2 Cups of Mayonnaise
  • 2/3 Cups of Sugar
  • 2 Tablespoons of Vinegar

Variations:

  • Mix mayonnaise, sugar, vinegar and set aside.
  • In a large bowl mix together the popcorn, green onions, celery, bacon, and shredded cheese.
  • Right before serving, mix together the popcorn mixture with the dressing.
